The hour and minute hands move separately, which was the whole point for us — my son can now physically turn just the minute hand to see how it relates to the hour. The printed 24-hour ring on the inner dial is a nice touch for later, though he's not quite there yet.

My daughter finally figured out the difference between the hour and minute hands because they actually move on their own instead of being stuck together. The printed face is big and clear enough that she can read it from across the table.
